Optimize WinRar for compression and speed

WinRAR settings for highest compression and fastest speed

WinRAR is a wonderful archiver that has normally a high compression ratio and fast speed. However, it might slow down significantly trying to compress some already-compressed files. Such files as MP3, JPEG, RAR and ZIP are already compressed by essence. Compressing them takes time and memory more results in very marginal gain, if not sometime an even larger size.

Fortunately, you can change the compression default to exclude these files from compression. Storing instead of compressing them results with a much higher speed.

This settings below are optional, but they can result in greater compression for other files.

Console settings

When you use RAR console version, the equivalent is the following:
RAR.exe a -r -m5 -s -msrar;zip;jpeg;jpg;mp3 [archive] [files]

a = archive command
-r = recurse
-m5 = max compression
-ms = store without compression
