Setup ZTree from a zip file

Zedtek offers two ways to setup ZTreeWin. One is from an executable. The other is from a zip. There are some very minors differences between the two. Zip method is usually preferred by knowledgeable users and is designed mainly to update an already existing ZTreeWin setup. However, when the zip file is used to install a NEW setup, its default and content may not be as optimized. Also, there are many files not directly related to core operations of ZTreeWin. Here are some possible changes to get an "ultra-slim" and powerful ZTreeWin installation. This is MY way of setting up ZTreeWin from scratch from a zip package. (tested with version 1.60rc13) 1. Decompress ZTWnnn.zip to the directory of your choice 2. Delete ZTWIN.BA_ (NT/2k/XP/Vista only) Under newer generations of Windows, this file isn't required since ZTW.EXE will create a valid ZTWIN.BAT at first execution. Anyway, the provided *.BA_ has ZTreeWin path harcoded to C:\PROGRA~1\ZTree\ZTW.EXE, which perhaps does not fit your choice. However if manually installing on Win9x/Me for the first time, ZTWIN.BAT is required in order to create a shortcut that provides access to the font settings etc. In this case, the file must be renamed to ZTWIN.BAT and may need to be edited. 3. Rename the following files to enable them ARCHIVER.BB_ --> ARCHIVER.BB2 TFC.BA_ --> TFC.BAT ZCOLORS.IN_ --> ZCOLORS.INI ZLIST.ZL_ --> ZLIST.ZLS Since all lines in the default ZLIST.ZLS file are already disabled (commented), I suggest to enable the whole file as default and edit as needed. ZNOLOG.IN_ --> ZNOLOG.INI Open the file in your text editor and comment all lines as wished. I believe it's better to comment (disable) everything IN the ZNOLOG.INI rather than disabling the whole file. 4. Move or create ZTW.KEY To register ZTree! 5. Move the following files elsewhere (could be also deleted if their content is already known) FILE_ID.DIZ ZTWHLP.PDF FAQ.TXT HISTORY.TXT LICENSE.TXT ORDER.TXT ORDER-AU.TXT ORDER-DE.TXT README.TXT TFC.TXT TFC-WHATSNEW.TXT WHATSNEW.TXT ZTW.TXT 6. Move the following files also elsewhere (could be also deleted) DWG.BA_ (Old Autocad XTGold viewer) SAM.BA_ (Old AmiPro XTGold Viewer, I believe) These are examples of the BAT feature, but file formats shown in these examples are too old to be really useful for most people and not everybody want to use / have XtreeGold viewer files. ZTW1.ICO ZTW2.ICO ZTW3.ICO Thanks, I'm fine with default icon. ZTW_VDBF.EXE Not everybody have DBF files to read. 8. Decide if you want to execute or not the following files, then move them elsewhere (could be also deleted) ZTW.INF ZTREE.INF Nice contributions, but I personnaly prefer not to use them. Final: What you end with BEFORE DOING EVEN MORE CONFIGURATION (Add ZLauncher, UPX Ztree, etc.):
ARCHIVER.BB2 (renamed)
TFC.BAT
TFC.EXE
unrar.dll
unzip32.dll
ZCOLORS.INI (renamed)
ZLIST.ZLS (renamed)
ZNOLOG.INI (renamed and edited to uncomment everything)
ZSHELL.EXE
ZTW.EXE
ZTW.HLP
ZTW_CFG.EXE
ZTW.KEY (added manually or created)
ZTWIN.BAT (created by ZTW.EXE)
ZTW.HST (created by ZTW.EXE)
ZTW.ZAM (created by ZTW.EXE once F9 has been pressed at least once)
ZTW.INI (created once Alt-F10,F3 has been pressed at least once).
As a final result, 989Kb of marginal files has been moved or deleted from the original zip. What's left is the bare minimum ZTreeWin.
